Kandy has been in the news recently for the last-over clincher between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in the last ICC T-20 World Cup tournament.  It is also good to see Kandy slowly getting its rhythm back after the major disruption in the beautiful Colombo-Kandy-Ella-Badulla railway due to the impact of Cyclone Ditwah in the latter part of 2025.  With a man-made lake at the epicenter, Kandy, in a bowl of mountains, was home to the last rulers from the Kandyan empire.  Today, it continues to play an important role in the politics, economy, and culture of Sri Lanka as the capital of the Central Province.  Sri Lanka is full of contradictions. From the rich Tamil Culture in Jaffna and the abandoned Buddhist ruins at the Ritigala Forest Monastery, to the bustling city of Kandy, it’s like visiting different countries with a few miles of traveling.  Moreover, Kandy is just 20 km away from Gampola, the home to the famous Ambuluwawa Tower, the symbol of natural diversity and religious inclusivity in Sri Lanka.  Hi, in today’s blog, I will talk about how to reach Kandy, the things to do in Kandy, where to stay, where to eat, and more.  How To Reach Kandy?  Kandy, one of the major cities of Sri Lanka, is easily accessible. If you are a budget traveler and a believer of the LowDownUnder Travel philosophy, you can take a local bus or train for the journey.  1. The Kandy Railway Station: The Major Gateway The Kandy Railway Station is the main gateway to the city if you are traveling from other parts of the island.  Also, this railway station on the beautiful Kandy to Ella line still exudes a colonial charm and shows Victorian influences in its architecture.  A train ride from Colombo to Kandy takes around 2 hours and 30 minutes, and based on the class, the ticket prices cost between LKR 300 and 1200.  You can even take a train on the Kandy to Ella route to explore the tea plantations, mountains, and the highland region.  However, being one of the most scenic railway routes in the world, tickets for these trains are always in high demand.  You can check out the available tickets at the official website of the Sri Lankan Railways. Tickets for a date get sold out even 1 month before.  2. Colombo To Kandy Bus  If you cannot book trains to reach Kandy. Don’t get disheartened, as buses are available from the Bastian Mawatha Bus Station in Colombo.  You can take an ordinary or AC intercity bus to reach Kandy from Colombo. The distance is around 120 km and the travel time is approximately 3-4 hours.  Also, the ticket prices start from LKR 360.  What Are The Things To Do In Kandy?  Kandy is the cultural capital of Sri Lanka. So, no wonder that it offers a good mix of colonial history, spiritual experience, and the serenity of the Kandy Lake.  Also, Kandy is home to the quintessential Singhalese food. I found the delicacies in Kandy to be way creamier and milder than the fiery food in Jaffna.  Nevertheless, I will talk about what to eat in Kandy a little later, and for now, let’s explore the things to do in Kandy and enjoy a mixed bag of experiences.  1. Visiting The Royal Botanic Gardens Hours Open: 7:30 AM to 5:30 PM Entry Fee: LKR 200 for Locals, LKR 3540 for Foreign Visitors From Kandy City, you can take a short tuk-tuk ride to reach the Royal Botanic Gardens. It is home to more than 4000 plants and covers an area of 147 acres.  A green oasis in the overwhelming city landscape, it also has an arboretum and decorative flower beds.  My favorite, however, was the majestic palm tree avenues. However, as the day grew, it got crowded by social media content creators.  Furthermore, there are giant bamboo trees. Another popular photography spot in the national park is the Mahaweli Ganga River suspension bridge. However, more than five people cannot get on the bridge at a time.  So, you may have to wait in a queue if you desperately want a photo for your socials.  Moreover, you will see bats hanging from trees, chipmunks, and monkeys in the botanical gardens. And don’t miss the Spice Garden here.  Also, if you feel hungry, you can buy drinks and snacks from the stalls inside and the local vendors outside the park. 2. Exploring The Udawattakele Forest Reserve Hours Open: 6 AM to 6 PM Entry Fee for Foreigners, LKR 830, For Locals: LKR 70  I walked for around 30 minutes to reach the Udawattakele Forest Reserve. You can even take a tuk-tuk ride from the Centre of Kandy.  It has some of the most famous caves in Candy and diverse fauna.  However, I did not expect that mother macaque monkeys would welcome me with their babies clinging to them.  After the grand entry, I chose the circular route around the park as I wanted to see the religious caves, the bathing pond, and the city viewpoint.  The Route  The green canopy stands in humility as you advance on the route, and now you are transported to a different world.  The birds were chirping, and I could hear the squeal of monkeys.  However, the highlight on that route was the Liana’s. These tree-sized vines created coils along the oath.  I followed the route upward and reached the City View Point.  The City View Point  From the City View Point, I loved the perspective of Kandy City and Lake. Then, walked further to come across the Cittavisuddhi Lena cave and othe two religious caves.  The cave had beautiful sculptures, paintings, and offerings by pilgrims. These are sacred to the Buddhist people.  However, overgrown trees and the fear of insects and bats deterred me from entering the cave and exploring the two other Buddhist caves.  Despite all the cautions, destiny had something different in store for me. There were leeches all over my legs, and luckily, I was carrying adequate salt to get rid of them.  The fellow tourists also helped to remove the leeches.  3. Visiting The Bahirawakanda Vihara Buddha Statue The Bahirawakanda Vihara Buddha Statue at the top of a hill is the guardian angel of Kandy. You need to take a short and steep walk to reach the Buddha Statue from the town.  You can even take a tuk-tuk.  Once you reach the statue, you can find the steps behind the magnificent statue and climb to higher vantage points looking over the other side of the city of Kandy.  Moreover, there is a small shop from where you can take trinkets and religious texts. The entry fee was 600 LKR when I visited last.  4. Exploring The Kandy Market I mentioned how an old lady in the Jaffna Public Market was the icebreaker during my trip to Jaffna.  In Kandy, it was the Kandy Market, which made me acquainted with the hilly region of Sri Lanka.  The market was near the Kandy Station. I visited it early in the morning and found vendors selling dried fish, bananas, fresh vegetables, and souvenirs.  5. Spending Moments By The Kandy Lake The Kandy Lake, or Lake Kandy, is at the heart of the city and is very close to the Temple of the Tooth.  It is a magnificent man-made lake around which you can take a walk of 2.1 miles. The pathway is called the Cloud Wall, and the highlight of my walk was finding out about the Queen’s bathing pavilion.  This ivory excellence reminded me of the regal past of the Kandy Lake.  I also spotted the ducks, busy schools of fish, and water monitor lizards.  Moreover, there is a well-groomed garden in the center of the lake. When I visited, it was in full bloom.  6. Walking To The Kandy Viewpoint After stretching my legs at the Kandy Lake, I took a short walk to reach the Kandy Viewpoint.  Hiking to the Kandy Viewpoint is one of the most delightful free things to do in Kandy. You can capture panoramic shots of the city from this viewpoint and interact with local hawkers for a meaningful cultural exchange.  7. Visiting The Asgiri Maha Vihara Pirivena - Buddhist Stupa And Temple If you are a Buddhist or someone eager to learn about the religion, visiting the Asgiri Maha Vihara Pirivena is one of the best things to do in Kandy.  This stupa is very close to the city, and I took the stairs across the train tracks to reach the stupa.  For me, the highlight of the stupa was the meditation room on the central floor. The iconographies were grand and meaningful.  Furthermore, the walls there depicted the three stages of decay a body has to undergo after death.  However, I did not yet know what was awaiting me, the dome of the stupa.  Filled with Buddhist artwork, an enormous lotus carving, and eight statues of Lord Buddha, it defined enormity.  The military guide finally took me to the balcony that surrounds the stupa. I found many monks clad in orange robes busy in their rituals, and I also loved the view.  8. Visiting The Temple Of The Tooth A UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Temple of the Tooth or Dalada Mandira preserves the canine tooth of Lord Buddha.  It has the Udawaththa Kelaya to the east and the Lake Kandy to the south.  After several invasions and destructions, the temple was finally rebuilt by King Keerthi Sri Rajasinghe, and it is in its current form that we see today.  The temple has beautiful works of ivory, gold, and silver.  More Things To Do In Kandy  Along with being a primary tourist attraction in Sri Lanka, Kandy is also the gateway to many iconic landmarks showing the richness of Sri Lanka in nature and wildlife.  You can take a train ride or a bus ride from Kandy to the Royal Cave Temples of Dambulla. Or, you can attend a wildlife safari in Kaudulla National Park and other national parks of Sri Lanka.  Where To Stay In Kandy? Know The Accommodations I stayed at a hostel near the hillside surrounding the city. It was modest, but the views I got from the room and balcony were amazing.  However, if you are not willing to walk so much, you can choose places such as the Ceyloni City Hotel.  The tariff of this city hotel is around 7500 LKR.  What To Eat In Kandy?  You can choose between vegetarian and non-vegetarian options in Kandy. Balaji Dosai is a nice spot to try vegetarian food, especially dosa.  The Siri Ramya Hotel is the place to try Kottu Roti in Kandy. You can have it as spicy as you want. Also, you can combine them with different types of veggies, eggs, chicken, or mutton.  Another thing you must not miss in Kandy is the snacks available on the bus or train. The fried chips and snacks have a lot of salt and chilli.  However, they are great for the taste buds.  Also, do not forget to try the rice and curry combination at the “famous hole in the wall rice and curry joints” in Kandy.  These offer a nice and filling lunch at the best price.  The Nightlife In Candy: Where To Drink?  Kandy is not a place famous for its nightlife. However, if you want to cherish some drink after a busy day, you can visit places such as The Stag’s Head Pub and the Royal Bar and Hotel.  Enjoy the beers, cocktails, and your favorite drinks with spicy local snacks, and enjoy the view of the city and lake at night.  Drinking at any of these places will cost you around 790 LKR.

Ninh Binh or Halong Bay on Land is a UNESCO-protected site and a hidden gem in the tourism landscape of Vietnam.  It has ancient temples, a surreal riverine landscape, and dramatic limestone mountains. A Ninh Binh boat tour and climbing up its beautiful peaks is the best way to explore this serene place.  Moreover, if you see Ninh Binh on the map, you will find it in the northern region of the country. Along with its natural abundance, it is also known for its historical and cultural heritage.  Hi, in today’s blog, I will talk about what Ninh Binh is famous for, how to reach Ninh Binh from Hanoi, the things to do in Ninh Binh, where to eat in Ninh Binh, and more.  What Is Ninh Binh Famous For?  If you are a follower of the TheLowDownUnder Travel philosophy, Ninh Binh will become your instant favorite. It’s authentic, sustainable, and perfect for mastering the art of slow traveling.  In this way, Ninh Binh reminds me of Luang Prabang in Laos. During my Luang Prabang itinerary planner, I found out how it practices sustainable tourism.  In fact, being environmentally responsible is a common feature of these two neighbors.  Also, Ninh Binh is one of the most exotic places to watch the sunrise in Vietnam.  Nevertheless, here are the reasons why Ninh Binh is famous for.  1. Waterways And Wetlands Ninh Binh is a lush and fertile region blessed by a network of waterways. The Red River and the Day River function as the lifeline of this region, and at the same time, many smaller rivers have added to the fertility and unique topography of the region.  You can enjoy a boat tour of these waterways and experience an adrenaline rush.  Moreover, these wetlands, especially in places such as the Van Long Nature Reserve, are home to different types of birds and other animals.  2. Karst Limestone Cliffs Trang An, Tam Coc, and Van Long Nature Reserve are some of the most famous Karst limestone cliff areas in Ninh.  Most of the karst limestone formations here rise from the waterways and the rice paddies. Thus, this sudden rise against the lows of the waterway creates a sense of drama.  3. Grottes And Caves The limestone karsts in Nin Binh are all the more fascinating due to the underground exploration and adventure opportunities they offer.  Some of them, especially the ones in Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park, come with caves and grottes. Moreover, these caves and grottes are some of the largest in Southeast Asia. 4. Proximity To Hanoi Hanoi, the Vietnamese capital, is one of the cheapest places to visit in the world.  The Hanoi to Ninh Binh journey by road takes around 2 hours. So, often, it is the go-to destination for a day trip or weekend trip from Hanoi to Ninh Binh.  5. Transportation Hubs The Ninh Binh City railway station is the gateway to the Ninh Binh region for the rest of the country.  Furthermore, Ninh Binh is well-connected via road. Thus, this scenic region of Vietnam is quite easily accessible.  6. Gateway To Exploration Ninh Binh is the gateway to Halong Bay in the east and the Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park.  Furthermore, from Ninh Binh, you can explore northern regions such as Sapa and the Vietnam-China border.  7. How To Get From Hanoi To Ninh Binh? A Ninh Binh day trip from Hanoi is quite common. You can take a bus or train, or reserve a private car for the day trip.  1. Hanoi To Ninh Binh By Train  You can take a train ride from Hanoi to the Ninh Binh Railway Station.  Depending on the class, your ticket price will be between VND 60000 and 200000, or around $8 USD.  Moreover, the travel time will be around 2.5 hours.  2. Hanoi To Ninh Binh By Bus If you are a budget traveler, you can take a bus from Hanoi to Ninh Binh. The buses, however, take a little longer, and based on the traffic, it may take up to 3 hours.  The ticket price for a Hanoi to Ninh Binh bus ride is around USD 6 or VND 70000-150000.  3. Hanoi To Ninh Binh By Car  You can book an Uber or just take a private car to reach Ninh Binh by car from Hanoi. Of course, it is the most expensive mode of transportation and costs around 1,380,000 VND or USD 60.  Furthermore, the travel time will be around 1.5 hours.  Moving Around Ninh Binh  Once you are in Ninh Binh and want to explore it locally, you can do it on foot. The city of Ninh Binh is very walkable.  However, if you want to explore more, you can take a bicycle or rent a bike.  1. Exploring Ninh Binh On A Bicycle  It’s a miss if you are in Ninh Binh and don’t explore Tam Coc or other quieter areas of Ninh Binh.  I got a bicycle from the homestay I was staying in for free. However, some homestays can charge a little for the bicycle rental.  2. Exploring Ning Binh On A Bike  Renting a motorbike is the best way to roam around Ninh Binh. You have to spend around $6 USD or VND 80,000–150,000 to rent a bike for a day.  Then, you can explore all corners of this UNESCO Protected Site and explore how history speaks in its every corner.  What Are The Things To Do In Ninh Binh?  The Ninh Binh Vietnam attractions are endless. You have to just figure out the best time to visit Vietnam based on your areas of interest.  Also, the things to do or the places to visit will depend on your duration of stay. Here, I have enlisted the activities that will fit well into your Ninh Binh itinerary for two days.  Nevertheless, here are the details on what to do in Ninh Binh.  1. Ninh Binh Trang An Tour Tràng An is designated by UNESCO as a heritage site, and you can reach it by taking a no-hassle boat ride from Ninh Binh.  The boatride in the serene rivers with the karst limestone cliffs in the background feels cinematic.  Furthermore, on the way, you will find a few temples where you can sniff history and appreciate the architecture.  Why Take A Trang An Tour You must take a Trang An Tour because it is not as expensive as a trip to Bến Thạch Bích. Bến Thạch Bích tour is expensive and has now become a tourist scam.  A tour to Trang An costs around $10 USD or 250000 VND per person.  2. Hiking The Lying Dragon Mountain Or Núi Ngoạ Long The boat rides through the ancient waterways, watched over by the karst limestones, are not the only adventures offered by Ninh Binh.  You can plan a hike to the Lying Dragon Mountain top. You have to climb 500 steps to reach the top, and the view from there is unreal.  From the top, you will see the lush paddy fields and the waterways winding through the limestone cliffs. There is even a temple on a rocky spire.  Ideal Time For Hiking The Lying Dragon Mountain Sunrise and sunset hours are the best for hiking the Lying Dragon Mountain. You can enjoy the golden and red glow from the top of the mountain.  Also, if you are hiking early in the morning, you will have fewer people taking the steps to the top.  Entry Fee And Parking Tip  The entry fee for the Lying Dragon Mountain hike is 100,000 VND or $4 USD. However, please note that your parking fee is included in this fee.  The parking attendants are very aggressive, and they will often misguide you by saying that the parking lot is full. So, be strict about not paying them extra or giving in to their tricks. 3. A Visit To Bich Dong Pagoda The Bich Dong Pagoda in the Hoa Lu District was built by Ly Thai To. It is on the Truong Yen limestone mountain range, and its history dates back to 1428.  However, it was abandoned for many centuries until Tri The and Tri Kien discovered it in 1705. Furthermore, it was named the Bich Dong Pagoda or Green Pearl cave by Lord Trinh Sam of Dang Ngoai in 1774.  The Unique Structure Of The Bich Dong Pagoda  The pagoda has three levels, and the Dark Cave and the Xuyen Thuy Cave.  • Ha Pagoda Or Lower Pagoda The Ha Pagoda, or Lower Pagoda, has 5 rooms and 10 roofs.  Furthermore, there is a monolithic stone pillar adorned with the statues of Lord Buddha. The lower pagoda is used for worship, and you will smell incense once you enter it, and the smell evokes a spiritual feeling.  • Middle Pagoda Or The Trung Pagoda Then, you have to take 120 steps to reach the Middle Pagoda or the Trung Pagoda. It has beautiful tiles and scriptures written in Chinese.  Also, you will find the figures of Lord Buddha, flying dragons, turtles, fairies, and little boys here.  • The Upper Pagoda Or The Thuong Pagoda Finally, you will take 40 steps to reach the upper pagoda or Thuong Pagoda. There is a forecourt, two rooms, and a stone altar in the outer room of the pagoda.  Furthermore, there is an inner room, which has the idol of the Bodhisattva. Moreover, the Cam Lo pond near the upper cave is used for curing ailments.  • Dark Cave Bich Dong You will again climb 21 steps from the Upper Pagoda to reach the Dark Cave Bich Dong.  You will find a large bronze bell there in 1707. Furthermore, inside the cave wall, you will find amazing embossed pictures.  • Xuyen Thuy Cave The Xuyen Thuy Cave is semicircular in form and has a length of around 350 meters. In places, the cave is 6-15 meters in width.  4. Birdwatching At The Thung Nham Bird Valley The Thung Nham Bird Valley is a great spot for nature lovers. You will find the birds early in the morning or late afternoon.  However, if you are late in the morning or in the afternoon at the Thung Nham Bird Valley, you will find goats and ducks roaming.  Overall, the view of the field is amazing.  5. Exploring The Hoa Lu Ancient Capital Hoa Lu, or the ancient capital of Vietnam, is the place to enjoy the history of Ninh Binh.  Being here feels straight out of a movie scene, and this place of reign by the Le and Dinh dynasties, with the surrounding mountains looks straight from a movie scene. Where To Stay In Ninh Binh? You will find many budget-friendly homestays and hotels in Ninh Binh. Having said that, these are my favorite picks.  We stayed at the Ruby Homestay, and it offered a local and authentic experience. It was budget-friendly and still had amenities such as a pool.  However, if you want a more luxurious experience, you can even try the Ninh Binh Royal Homestay. It is a resort with a 3-star rating.  What To Eat In Ninh Binh? The mountain goat meat cooked in various styles, braised fish, rice, and crispy rice are some traditional Vietnamese dishes you can eat in Ninh Binh.  Furthermore, if you are more adventurous, you can try delicacies such as the snakehead fish salad and oakit or jackfruit snail.  Chookie's in Tam Coc and the local markets were our favorite go-to places for trying authentic Vietnamese cuisines and a mix of Western delicacies at times.  Is Ninh Binh Worth Visiting?  Yes, Ninh Binh is worth visiting, and it is the heart of Northern Vietnam for tourists. It has pagodas and temples that go back to the 10th century. Furthermore, the winding waterways through the karst limestone formations simply create a landscape of contrast.  Moreover, it is one of the best places to see sunrise and sunset in Vietnam.  It’s soulful, sustainable, and fertile with lush greenery. The travel time by road down south is around 1.5 to 2 hours. Of course, the travel time will depend on the mode of transport. For example, if you are traveling by bus, the travel time will be around 2.5 to 3 hours. Also, if you are taking a train, it will take around 2.5 hours.  4. What Is The Best Time To Visit Nin Binh? November to April is the best time to visit Nin Binh if you want to enjoy pleasant weather conditions. Having said that, the exact timing of planning your trip will depend on the kind of experience you want. For example, March to May is the ideal time for seeing the blooming flowers. However, if you want to see the golden paddies along the Ngo Dong River, you have to plan a visit in late May to early June.

The beauty of a tropical beach is truly unmatched - the beautiful sky stretching endlessly, the glistening white sand everywhere, coconut trees creating a perfect backdrop against the sky, and the sea.  Oh, the beautiful sea! The blue waters and the rhythmic soft crash of waves on the beach always end up transporting me to a land far away. In this land, I am a lone wolf, much like Robinson Crusoe on an adventure - and no, before you ask, I don’t need my man Friday here.  All the beauty around is the perfect companion - you don’t really need anything, especially if you have been seeking an escape from your daily, mundane corporate life.  I am not here to convince you about taking a much-needed vacation - because I’m sure you are already planning one. But I am here to share my favorite tropical beaches from around the world.  For context, my mother is a national-level professional diver - and it is only normal that I spent my teenage years and most of my 20s visiting beaches around the world - nothing makes me calmer than spending a few days by a beautiful beach.  So here I am with a singular purpose - to share my list of the best tropical beaches around the globe.  I’ve also attached a complete itinerary for each beach to help you out, in case you want to plan a visit to any of these beaches.  Stay tuned.  The 10 BEST Tropical Beaches In The World: So, without wasting time talking about boring beaches, let’s check out some of the most beautiful tropical beaches across the globe.  10. Makena Beach (Maui, Hawaii): I have a soft corner for Hawaii in my heart for years now - nearly a decade to be precise. I was only 19 when I first visited Hawaii on a family vacation.  Since then, I’ve returned a few times - because I just can’t get enough of this beautiful island.  Also known as the Big Beach, Makena Beach is located in Makena State Park on the island of Maui.  With white sand stretching for 3000 feet or more, Makena Beach is perhaps one of the longest beaches in Maui.  Moreover, it is a very popular tropical beach in Hawaii - and rightfully so! Also, I love how there is a rocky formation on the northern part of the beach. Nusa Lembongan (Bali, Indonesia): Of course, Nusa Lembongan is not the best tropical beach in Bali - the place has so much to offer when it comes to beautiful beaches.  But for me, Nusa Lembongan is special - and I recommend it heartily to everyone.  So what is it about Nusa Lembongan that appeals to me so much? It’s about the vibe for me, really - I love the low-key, chill vibes here.  It was a relaxing weekend. Also, I stayed with my partner at this stunning beachfront property with a pool overlooking the beach.  Additionally, during low tide, the beach exposed a seaweed farm - it was so cool. This was an epic experience, especially the sunset - it was so serene, reflective, and deeply romantic.  8. Yasawa Island (Fiji): Fiji is a spectacular country with its string of stunning islands.  I was only 17 when I traveled to Fiji for the first time, and I'm so thankful that I was able to visit one of Fiji’s most remote islands, the Yasawa Island.  While I haven’t been back to Fiji in the past 12 years, I can say Yasawa continues to be one of my favorite tranquil escapes.  Interestingly, the only way to reach Yasawa Island is fly on a puddle-hopper plane or take a boat. Since there is no runway on the island, the eight-seater aircraft uses a grass strip. Moreover, the island is home to only one resort - the Yasawa Island Resort and Spa.  Because the place is so remote, nature feels untouched here - the ocean and the beach are absolutely clean, tranquil, and mesmerizing!  So, if you have been looking for a secluded tropical beach, this is your answer. It’s practically the middle of nowhere - somewhere in the middle of the vast South Pacific Ocean, on a small island.  7. Eagle Beach (Aruba): While the beautiful waters of Aruba are famous, I suggest visiting just for the fun island charm you will find here.  Interestingly, the most popular beach in Aruba is Palm Beach. But it is also the most crowded spot in Aruba, thanks to the high-rise hotels and famous tour operators. However, it wasn’t really my thing. For starters, I hate very crowded places, and everything seemed too commercial. I am more of an organic person. As a result, Eagle Beach had a different kind of appeal.  The water at Eagle Beach is calm and beautiful. Moreover, it is not crowded, which makes the entire vibe of the place very low-key and peaceful (just what I like) 6. Grace Bay Beach (Turks & Caicos): The Turks & Caicos are famous for their tranquil, turquoise waters and beaches with white sand.  But if I had to pick my favorite beach here, it would always be Grace Bay Beach. Why? Because you can walk for miles on uninterrupted stretches of sand with plenty of quiet, serene corners.  Moreover, small markets and small restaurants are scattered along the beach, without making the experience too commercial for tourists.  Also, this is the most popular beach located in Providenciales with fancy hotels and too many tourists.  But don’t let that discourage you - the beach is long enough for you to find your peace, much like I did.  5. Carlisle Bay (Barbados): Without a doubt, Barbados is home to some of the Caribbean’s best tropical beaches. And while I’ve been here a number of times, Carlisle Bay is my absolute favorite.  Located just outside Bridgetown, Carlisle Bay has a ton of activities on offer. From sunbathing and snorkelling to paddleboarding, there’s so much to try out. Moreover, there are several nice hotels here, and in spite of all the accommodations on the bay, the place is relatively quiet. Also, I fell in love with the crystal-clear water here.  And the best part? You might just end up spotting a turtle if you are out snorkeling. 4. Kalalau Beach (Kauai, Hawaii):  If you have been planning a trip to Kauai Island in Hawaii, chances are you have definitely come across the NaPali Coast, and more importantly, the famous Kalalau Trail.  So, I’ve been to Kauai Island thrice, and it is the jaw-dropping landscape that appeals to me so much - it is unlike anything I have ever seen.  FYI, the NaPali Coast is a rugged, mountainous region - there are no roads, and accessibility is zero. The only way to commute here is either by taking a boat or hiking for 11 miles (17 kms).  In case you choose to hike, note that the trail is right beside cliffs that are over 2000 feet high.  While this is definitely not for anyone faint-hearted, once you hike to the destination, you will be mesmerized - Kalalau Beach awaits you! Located in the gorgeous Kalalau Valley, the beach has a stunning backdrop. What makes Kalalau Beach so special is how difficult it is to reach this place.  But be careful - this place is not meant for swimming. The currents and rip-tide are no joke. Plus, people have actually died or gotten injured in this area. Also, if you are hiking, you will need a permit beforehand.  Additionally, you can also hike specific parts of the valley via another park - this park offers a different perspective of the valley and the beach.  You can also go for a helicopter ride in this region - the views are absolutely stunning!  3. El Nido (Palawan, The Philippines): I visited the Philippines in 2021, and on my first visit itself, El Nido had my heart.  Located in Palawan, the beautiful El Nido is famous for its gorgeous limestone cliffs, diverse marine life, and its islands.  Moreover, the beach is home to beautiful reefs. As a result, diving here was an exceptional experience. Plus, the landscape was spectacular. I just hope that the marine life in this region continues to be untouched.  Also, I loved how you need a boat to visit most islands in this region - it makes everything remote, unique, and memorable.  2. Baa Atoll (The Maldives): Located in the beautiful (and very popular) Maldives, Baa Atoll is a UNESCO biosphere reserve - and that too since 2011.  FYI, the Maldives has only one such biosphere reserve - and this is precisely why you must consider planning a trip to Baa Atoll.  Due to the vast ecological diversity in Baa Atoll, including one of the biggest groups of coral reefs located in the Indian Ocean, the beach received UNESCO’s official designation.  Moreover, the area is protected and has several beautiful beaches. Also, most of the resorts here have private beaches with crystal-clear water.  In addition, I found a very cool house reef near the beach - you can explore and check it out.  1. Bimini (The Bahamas): Located in the Bahamas, Bimini is my favorite tropical beach in the whole world. Of course, you can disagree with me and claim there are better beaches.  TBH, it is possible, but for me, Bimini is home! I’ve visited this island more than five times, and I am definitely going back soon.  If you dream about swimming at a stunning, tropical beach with dolphins on your side, then you should definitely consider visiting Bimini at least once.

During my last trip to Jaffna, I got an idea about the inclusive soul of Sri Lanka. Also, it rises above the mountain and is truly called “Nature’s Stairway to Sri Lanka” for the views of the Knuckles Range and other surrounding mountain ranges.  Hi, in today’s blog, I will talk about the Ambuluwawa Tower in Sri Lanka. Also, the average ticket price for this train journey is around INR 380.  Moreover, tuk-tuks are easily available from the Gampola Station to the Ambuluwawa Tower. You have to negotiate a bit, and for me, it cost around INR 400. From the station, you will reach the tower entrance in 15-20 minutes.  3. Reserve A Tuk-Tuk  Tuk-Tuks are the best for exploring Sri Lanka. A ride in Tuk-Tuks is fun and adventurous. Also, today, there are platforms such as tuktukrental. com to make your rides easier.  A reserved tuk-tuk ride from Kandy to Ambuluwawa will cost around INR 1500.  If you have reserved a tuk-tuk, the entry fee to the park for one adult will cost 2900 LKR, which is around INR 850.  Furthermore, you can get dropped off at the entrance and then book a taxi-tuktuk or walk the rest of the distance.  Reserved Tuk-Tuk, Taxi Tuk-Tuk, And Walk: Which Option Is The Best For You?  I got down at the entrance of the Ambuluwawa Park and then took a taxi tuk-tuk. It cost me around INR 400, and these are the best options because they are souped up and they can climb up the mountain faster.  I found these taxi tuk-tuks at the entrance, and the drivers were friendly. The price was around 400 INR or 1500 LKR.  You can even take your own tuk-tuk. However, I saw many tuk-tuks getting stuck in the middle. Then, the passengers had to walk for the rest of the route.  Now, walking here or on the ascent is not everyone’s cup of tea. It is very steep.  Visiting The Ambuluwawa Tower? Keep These Tips In Mind  Early morning or late afternoon (just before sunset) is the best time of day to climb up the Ambuluwawa Tower. Moreover, in the middle of the day, the view can become foggy.  So, here are a few more things to remember.  1. Enjoy The Unique Ascent Experience At The Ambuluwawa Tower You have to climb up 55 stairs to reach the top of the tower.  However, the staircase is narrow and spiral, and as I kept climbing up, the staircase started getting narrower.  Still, enjoy the 360-degree view before your eyes as you keep climbing up the stairs.  2. Combine Your Tower Visit With Other Activities Once you are done visiting the tower, you can visit the nearby Java Lounge or souvenir shop. You can also have an adrenaline rush at the Adventure Park.   Furthermore, you can combine a historical and cultural tour of Kandy with a visit to the Ambuluwawa Tower. You can even travel to Nuwara Eliya.  Moreover, there are many nearby tea plantations to explore.   3. Insider Tips  Layered clothing and comfortable shoes are a must as you need to climb up 55 stairs. Also, at the top, it is very windy.  Moreover, you have to hold your mobile phone or camera firmly as the wind is harsh at the top.  Also, you need to carry enough water and snacks. Is It Safe To Visit The Ambuluwawa Tower?  Yes, the Ambuluwawa Tower is safe to climb. However, the staircases are narrow and can sometimes be slippery.  Also, sometimes the crowd can move in the wrong direction, creating unnecessary traffic in the staircase.  Furthermore, it may be difficult for you if you have health issues such as vertigo and spondylitis.  Nevertheless, wear comfortable and sporty shoes and stay hydrated to eliminate most hazards while climbing up the stairs.  Where To Stay Near The Ambuluwawa Tower?  You can stay in Kandy or Gampola for a comfortable visit to the Ambuluwawa Tower. Trincomalee has one of the closest gateways to Harbarana, the gateway to the Ritigara Forest Monastery.  However, as a tourist from India, Trincomalee is more than a tourist attraction for me. As Jaffna, Sri Lanka, connects the country with India, my homeland, with its Tamil culture and Top Hindu Temples, Trincomalee is important for political, economic, and security reasons.  That is why India has taken a keen interest in the development of the “socio-economic infrastructure and energy hub” in the region.  Also, Trincomalee, with adventure opportunities such as whale watching, surfing, and historical exploration, plays an important role in the tourism development in Sri Lanka.  However, it is unfortunate that most tourists think of only Uppuveli Beach when there is any discussion regarding Trincomalee.  This time, I will talk about the things to do in Trincomalee beyond the Uppuveli Beach.  What Are The Best Things To Do In Trincomalee? I know it’s difficult to avoid the allure of the Uppuveli Beach, which has a laid-back vibe. Also, its emerald waters attract the divers and snorkelers.  Still, there is so much to see beyond the Uppuveli Beach. I loved the beautiful beaches in Jaffna for their quiet and pristine vibes.  However, I found the Uppuveli Beach very touristy, and that was a big turn-off for someone like me, who believes in the principles of the LowDownUnder Travel.  So, here are the other and more exciting (for me) things to do in Trincomalee. 1. Visiting The Nilaveli Beach I took a tuk-tuk from the Uppuveli Beach and reached the Nilaveli Beach within 20 minutes. It was summertime. So, even if the Sun was very strong, the crowd was very small. Just the way I like it! The restaurants, shops, and resorts were not up from their siesta yet, and it was the surfing locals who kept the beach alive.  I started walking south back along the white beach toward Uppuveli, and fortunately, found a place that looked deserted. It was just the turquoise waters, white sand, and me.  However, the current was pretty strong, and I could not spot any lifeguards. So, I bunked the idea of swimming and again walked back toward the north. I had chilled beer with some snacks and watched the surfers in action.  The guy serving food asked me to come back in the peak season when the beach becomes a bustling coastal hub. I told him, “I like it this way!”  2. Visiting The Thirukoneswaram Kovil Temple  Entry: Free Hours: 6 AM to 1 PM and 4 PM to 6:45 PM Photography: Not Allowed Dress Code: Modest Clothing with Knees and Shoulders Covered  I again took a tuk-tuk from the Nilaveli Beach and started for the Sri Thirukoneswaram Kovil Temple. The temple is on the Trincomalee cliffs, and on my way, I found Fort Frederick, once a Dutch stronghold in the country.  Also, as I started walking upward, there were many sellers, market stalls, and fruit vendors lined on both sides of the road. So, the temple is not just a religious place. It is at the epicenter of the local economic and cultural activities.  Nevertheless, once I reached the temple entrance, the majestic statue of Lord Shiva evoked awe. The main temple in pastel shades is erected behind the statue.  The main temple and many of the statues were destroyed by the Portuguese, and they built Fort Frederick with the temple ruins. However, the locals saved many of the statues by burying them underground, and now they are restored again.  The interior of the current temple is as beautiful as its exterior. You will find intricate wooden work and Hindu deities everywhere you look. Also, as you take a walk around the temple, you eventually walk down the cliffs, enjoying the beautiful views of the bay.  3. Lover’s Leap  Lover’s Leap is an area in the Trincomalee cliffs themselves. Francina van Reed, the daughter of a Dutchman, sacrificed her life by jumping from the cliffs.  She saw the ship of her lover sinking in the waters of the Indian Ocean. Out of grief, she took her life.  4. Fort Frederick Fort Frederick was once a Portuguese stronghold, and now the Sri Lankan army uses it. So, you can only see the fort from the road.  Also, there are many old colonial buildings in the same area.  Furthermore, the Fort is occupied by the local deer. Spotting them here was unexpected and obviously a high point.  However, there are warning signs, and you must obey them. So, do not try to feed them, however tempting it may seem.  5. Visiting The Trincomalee Maritime And Naval History Museum Hours Open: 9 AM to 4 PM (Wednesday to Monday) Entry: Free I took a short walk from the fort and reached the Trincomalee Maritime and Naval History Museum. The barrel of a giant cannon welcomed me there.  I opted for a guided tour as I wanted to know the stories behind the exhibits. The museum has recreated a shipwreck, and among other exhibits, there are 3D models explaining the history and landscape of Trincomalee.  There are also archaeological exhibits and the display of naval uniforms.  However, the high point in the museum was yet to come for me. I learned that it was once the residence of a Dutch Commissioner. However, the building fell with the roots of a giant tree bursting through the property.  Still, it was restored to its glory after a reconstruction work of five years.  I was slowly soaking in the story of human resilience as my guide took me to the roof of the museum. I climbed up through a set of tiny stairs in the backroom.  The view was beautiful, and I could see the bay, Fort Frederick, and everything in the surrounding areas.  6. Exploring The Trincomalee Market Exploring the local market was at the core of my Jaffna food tour. Similarly, to know about the local culture, I decided to visit the Trincomalee Market.  Trust me, it is one of the best things to do in Trincomalee if you are planning to try activities that are not very touristy.  I spotted some beautiful street art while exploring the market. Furthermore, the textile shops were selling vibrant clothes, vegetables and fresh fruit. Also, the fish market has a separate section.  So, if you are a vegetarian or vegan, you can explore the market without hesitation.  The market is also easily accessible from various parts of Trincomalee, as the setup is around the Central Bus Station and the Clock Tower.  Lunch And Food At The Trincomalee Market For me, a trip remains incomplete until I try the local food. Food here is very much like Jaffna, only a little less spicy.  The hotels (restaurants) here serve warm vadas, rice and curry, samosas, and seafood. Lunch for a person at these hotels will cost you around INR 120.  Then, we walked opposite the bus station and found many fruit and vegetable stalls. We bought some bananas, dragon fruits, and the jackfruits there were the biggest I have seen. The Fish Market I was a little late, and most of the fish was sold by then. Still, the crowd of vendors and sellers was pretty decent there.  I bought some fresh crabs and prawns and requested the cook at the hostel to prepare our evening snacks and dinner with them. I made quite a few friends at the hostel. So, sharing the meal with them was a lot of fun.  7. Whale Watching  Whale watching is one of the most exciting things to do in Trincomalee if you are here between November and mid-April.  It is located at a distance of 2 hours, and Nilaveli and Uppuveli beaches are the best places to spot whales in Trincomalee.  In the peak season, you can spot at least ten species of whales here. Split is a port city on the beautiful Adriatic Sea. It has delightful beaches in Croatia and a vibrant nightlife. However, it is the ancient heart of the city that attracts me the most.  It’s great that I reached Split in November and spent weeks getting to know the Dalmatian region and the city’s history.  The Mediterranean climate of Split is blissful, and that’s what makes it a year-round attraction. However, it is one of the best family vacation spots if you are planning something for the summer.  Also, if you are a history buff like me, you can plan an off-season trip and avoid the crowd.  As I chose November for my Split Croatia trip, I got the chance to soak up the never-ending stories.  Did you know that Split was the place where Emperor Diocletian retired from his throne? He was the only Roman emperor who voluntarily retired from his throne. Also, Split was the place where Julius Nepos, another Roman Emperor, was killed by his soldiers in 480 AD. Thus, Split saw the final nail in the coffin of the Western Roman Empire.  Nikola Tesla, the legendary inventor, studied in Split.  Split has been used as the backdrop of many Hollywood movies and TV series, including the magnanimous Game of Thrones. Split is the actual place where Daenerys kept her three dragons.  So, overall, Split has history, intrigue, natural abundance, and a happening nightlife. Split, again, has the highest population among them. Also, I used Split as the base for my journey on the Dalmatian Coast. The city airport has modern amenities, and it gets many connecting flights to other Dalmatian cities. So, this is the best way to enjoy a day, cherishing the Adriatic region. However, you can also choose Zagreb, the inland capital of Croatia, as your base, and then take a bus to Split and the Dalmatian coast.  2. Visiting Diocletian’s Palace  Diocletian, an enlightened Roman emperor, ruled from 284 to 305 AD. The seat of his voluntary retirement or abdication was his palace in Split.  Diocletian’s Palace is an intriguing combination of a military fortress, an imperial accommodation, a fortified town, and gardens.  You can still listen to the cry of the while marble palace for the retired emperor.  A DIY tour of the palace is free. However, you can also be a part of a small group tour and have an in-depth idea about the past of the palace and Split.  Also, if you want, you can plan a stay at the Diocletian’s Palace. However, there is always a large queue of tourists who want to stay here. So, book in advance.  Moreover, here are the most noteworthy spots I visited in the Diocletian’s Palace Complex.  • The Cybele Temple Or The Cathedral Treasury Split I came across the Cybele Temple or the Cathedral Treasury as I just entered the complex. This complex also functions as a museum.  Inside the museum, I saw some really intriguing Catholic relics and artifacts from the Roman era. So, the museum at the entrance sets the perfect mood for the things you can expect throughout the tour of the palace.  It is also the time when you will choose the tours you want to take. The amount you pay will depend on the number of tours you take.  • Saint Dominus Bell Tower Now, this part is a little difficult as I had to climb almost 200 steep steps to reach the top of the bell tower. The narrow passageways once again reminded me why I needed to take my fitness sessions more seriously.  Finally, after climbing upward through a tight space, the tower culminates in an “open-air metal staircase.”  The view from here is amazing.  • Saint Dominus Cathedral The Saint Dominus Cathedral is just below the cathedral. It is the second-oldest among the Catholic cathedrals that are still being used.  Furthermore, the Catholic iconography and the soaring dome inside really humbled me. The building may not be massive, but it has an impressive architecture.  • The Temple Of Jupiter I love Greco-Roman architecture and always look for historical things to do whenever I visit a new destination. So, I had to stop by the Temple of Jupiter.  Dedicated to the Greek God, Jupiter, the temple also tells the tales of human resilience. It was destroyed three times and then reconstructed.  The final version was built during 81-96, in the time of Emperor Domitian.  Furthermore, the granite sphinx outside the temple is headless and this is a 3000-year-old statue, which was beheaded in the 4th century by the enraged local Christians. After the temple visit, I took the Pusti Me Da Prodjem or the Let Me Pass alley. 3. Exploring The Old Town  The Diocletian’s Palace is in a fortified town. The alleys here still exude the old-world charm.  The only modern elements are the internet cafes, stray cats, and ice cream shops here. I especially loved walking the alleyways at night with the moonlight bathing the streets.  The activity was simple, but the sense of adventure and romance I had was matchless. It was the perfect TheLowDownUnder Travel vibe.  4. Walking The Riva The harbor and the Riva are just outside the Old Town and temple walls. This section is very wakable, and it is the place to explore the shops, local restaurants, and cafes.  You can call it the living room of the city, and it is the most prominent place in Split. Moreover, you can have all types of seafood and cuisine at the restaurants here.  I loved the English-only menus and authentic Croatian cuisine here. You can also try the seafood, fresh burgers, and pizzas.  Moreover, I loved watching people here and how they got involved in animated conversations after a dose of cigarettes, booze, or just good food.  Overall, with music playing in the background, Riva is all about camaraderie, great energy, and sharing vibes.  5. Eating, Drinking, And Partying In Split  Do you love authentic Croatian food? Try the top-rated restaurants in Split, such as Duje, DeListes or Konoba Matejusta.  Furthermore, I loved the cuttlefish risotto at DeListes and black truffle carbonara. The best thing about these restaurants is that the menus change regularly because the dishes are made using fresh and locally-sourced ingredients only.  Also, they always do not accept reservations, and you may have to pay only in cash.  Moreover, I came across many excellent bars in the Old Town. O’Hara’s Irish Pub was a discovery there, and a local lady advised me to pay a visit to Trogir.  Also, Marvlvs Libray Jazz Bar, Charlie’s Bar, and Crew Bar are some of the places to enjoy the party vibe of Croatia.  6. Visiting A Museum With such a rich culture, Split has no dearth of options when it comes to museums. I visited the following museums here.  • Mestrovic Gallery This museum celebrates Mestrovic, the famous Croatian artist and sculptor. It is a place to learn about his life and work.  • Split Ethnographic Museum It is a wonderful display of the Croatian home objects and clothing.  • Game Of Thrones Museum  This museum has the most authentic costumes and props used in the iconic TV series. Also, some parts of the TV series were shot here. 7. Getting Aerobic At Marjan Park The Marjan Park, with its network of forested trails, extends into the ocean. It was an experience to climb the Telegrin Peak, the highest point of the park.  From the peak, I loved the views in the surroundings. If you don’t want to walk, you can also take a bike to reach the peak.  In fact, you walk for four hours and still do not see every corner of the park. So, getting the rental immediately after reaching the park is the best thing you can do.  Moreover, I don’t want you to repeat the mistake I made. So, you must bring your swimsuit here as you will find the Kasjuni Beach, Plaza Jezinak, and Kupaliste Bene here. 8. A Day Trip In The Dalmatia Historic Region Split is more alluring for the quintessential Croatian experience because of its accessibility and central location.  Furthermore, you can start exploring the historic region of Dalmatia from Split. So, take a short bus ride and explore the following regions.  • Trogir I took the Flix bus and reached Trogir to soak in its medieval vibe. Time stands still here, and it feels like a journey to the fairyland.  • Kills Fortress Visiting the Kills Fortress feels nothing short of an investigation project. In Game of Thrones, it was the Meeren.  The views from the fortress are breathtaking.  • Solin And Salona  You can experience Solin, which is a modern city, and it surrounds Salona. Salona is the place where Emperor Diocletian was born.  Furthermore, it is an ancient Roman City, probably even older than Pompeii. It has a large cemetery, a large bathhouse, and a massive amphitheater.  Other places you can visit during the day trip are the Plitvice Lakes National Park, Krka National Park, or the Blue Cave. Even Mostar in Bosnia and Herzegovina can be a part of your Split Croatia itinerary.  9. Hopping A Ferry Croatia has more than a thousand islands. Some of them are unpopulated. However, you can explore the other islands by ferry.  I used the ferryhopper.com app to plan my ferry route and schedule the ride. I took a ticket for a visit to Hvar.  You can even take a ferry ride to Mediterranean islands such as Korkula and Vis.  However, when planning a ferry ride, you have to check the weather conditions first. Adriatic is unpredictable.  10. Making Good Memories In Split Croatia Split Croatia harbors most of the historical wonders and flows here. So, I listened to endless stories and learned many lessons here.  Furthermore, the Mediterranean climate here is very seductive, and in every nook of Split, there is a sense of discovery.  People are warm, the beaches are gorgeous, and the food is great.  So, plan a visit to this city of Roman history and culture soon!

Nevertheless, there are ropes in some sections to help you haul yourself up.  • Savura Forest Reserve Savura Forest Reserve is like a hidden gem, and it is a quiet academic zone that you would love to explore. It is a vital area for the water supply of Suva.  Furthermore, because it has fewer tourists, the biodiversity of the place remains almost intact. Overall, the condition is meditative and peaceful.  4. Coastal And Island Nature To cherish the coastal beauty and Island nature of Suva, you must visit the Nukulau Island and My Suva Park & The Seawall. The ticket price will be just $2.  3. Suva Keeps It Quiet On Sundays  Sundays are great for exploring the natural spots of Suva. These places are less crowded on Sundays.  Quite a surprise compared to the Western standards.  However, there is a catch! Public transport options are very limited on Sundays. So, you must pre-book a taxi for a smooth experience.  4. Follow The Sulu Rule  Suva is very particular about its customs and traditions.  Suppose you are visiting a secluded nature spot and you have to walk through a village, such as Korolailai, to reach that place.  Then, you will have to cover your legs with a sarong as a gesture of respect for the local community.  5. Be Aware Of Leptospirosis The pools and natural swimming places in Suva have tropical water. So, you cannot swim in them if you have open cuts.  Tropical water carries bacteria, and if you swim in the water with open injuries, you may have Leptospirosis.  6. Use Your Skills To Negotiate  You cannot just agree to whatever the boat owner asks you to pay for a ride to Nukulau. You must negotiate the boat fee at the Suva Carrier Stand, which is near the Suva Market.  If you are taking a private fiberglass boat, a return trip will cost you around $80-$100 FJD.  7. Wear Mosquito Repellent  My Suva Park in Suva, or the mangrove areas and rainforest, has mosquitoes. Also, Dengue is a serious concern here.  So, you have to wear mosquito repellent, and you need to spray to get rid of the mosquitoes.  8. Stay Hydrated  The humidity percentage in Suva Rainforest is more than 90%. It is at the base of the Mt Korobaba. It was once a quarantine island and later became a prison for coup leaders.  Moreover, this place has a stark contrast between the beautiful sandy beaches and a turbulent past. The entry fee for Colo-I-Suva is around $1 FJD for the local adults and $0.50 FJD for children. However, if you are a foreign visitor, you will have to pay $5 FJD for adults and $1 FJD for children. 6. Can I Camp On Nukulau Island? Yes, you can camp on Nukulau Island, but you need a permit from the Department of Environment in Suva City beforehand. The permit will cost you around $2 for 24 hours. Also, the island has a shade for camping. However, you will have to bring your own tent, food, and water. 7. What Wildlife Will I See In Suva, Fiji? Suva is rich in wildlife. The charm of Edinburgh grows on you. I know that I am not the only one who felt like moving to the Scottish Capital after the first visit.   So, even though Edinburgh happened to me many moons ago, I can vividly remember its moody weather and the beautiful architecture. More than anything, the cityscape stays with me.   Also, if you are a “bucket-list” kind of traveler, the city harbors endless attractions. And this guide here is about the things to do in Edinburgh.   What Are The Things To Do In Edinburgh?   From visiting the beautiful Dean Village to exploring the majestic Edinburgh Castle, you cannot match the experience of the Scottish capital with anywhere else.   These are my favorite things to do in Edinburgh.  1. Visiting The Dean Village   Dean Village reminded me of the village of Belle from Beauty and the Beast. I took a short walk from Stockbridge to reach Dean Village.   Furthermore, I just grabbed my coffee and roamed aimlessly. This is how you discover the best wonders and keep your plan spontaneous.   2. Strolling Down The Circus Lane   I discovered the Circus Lane while strolling along the Dean Village and beyond. The Circus Lane is just five minutes away from Dean Village.   Every minute in the street is Instagrammable.  3. Living The Dark Academia Moment At New College  The dark academia fan in me was very happy visiting the New College. I stepped into the courtyard and saw a ballroom scene becoming alive before my eyes.   4. Exploring The Edinburgh Castle  On top of Castle Rock, the castle is the crown jewel in the history of Edinburgh. Also, from the castle, you can enjoy a panoramic view of the surroundings.  5. Wandering Along The Royal Mile   The Royal Mile is also one of the historical palaces to see in Edinburgh. It is a thoroughfare, and it is a link between the Palace of Holyroodhouse and Edinburgh Castle.   You will find many eateries, shops, and landmarks here.   6. Hiking To The Top Of Arthur’s Seat  This is a hike to reach the top of an ancient volcano. The hike is rewarding, and after reaching the top, I loved the vistas of the entire city.   It’s a must if you are in Edinburgh.  7. Enjoying The View Of The Edinburgh Castle From Vennel Viewpoint  You can enjoy a different perspective of the Edinburgh Castle from the Vennel Viewpoint. The surroundings are beautiful in all seasons.   However, it is something different in autumn.   8. Exploring The Harry Potter Shops On Victoria Street   Now, everyone knows that Victoria Street is the inspiration behind the famous Diagon Alley in Harry Potter.   No wonder that the street today has many Harry Potter-themed shops. So, it was a mix of walking down the historical moments and a Potterhead moment.   9. Living The Willy Wonka Moment At The Chocolatarium  The Chocolatarium, close to the Royal Mile, offers a 90-minute guided tour called The Tour of Chocolate.   You will get to taste more than 40 flavors of chocolates here, and you can make your own chocolate bar and take it home.   Furthermore, during the weekends, The Chocolatarium also offers Chocolate and Wine and Chocolate and Whiskey pairings.   10. Enjoying Views From The Top Of Camera Obscura  Camera Obscura has various exhibits and displays. However, to find Camera Obscura, you will have to reach the top of the building.   This old telescope from 1835 is the oldest CCTV in the city. Through this, you can enjoy a view of the city down to the waterfront as it was back then.  11. Visiting The Grave Of Tom Riddle At Greyfriars Kirkyard  Near the Royal Mile, Greyfriars Kirkyard is an iconic place to visit in Edinburgh. Here, you will find the graveyard of McGonagall and Tom Riddle.   12. Taking A Stroll Up To Calton Hill  Calton Hill is home to various iconic moments of Edinburgh. Furthermore, I loved it more for its sunrise and sunset views.   13. Visiting The Museums Of Edinburgh   Edinburgh has some of the most prominent and comprehensive museums in the United Kingdom.   These are the museums you can explore in Edinburgh.   National Museum Of Scotland   You will get to know about Scottish history, technology, science, world cultures, and the natural world at the National Museum of Scotland.   The important exhibits here are Dolly the Sheep, which was the first cloned mammal, the Lewis Chessmen, and the dramatic architecture of the Grand Gallery.   You need at least 3 hours to explore this museum.   The Museum Of Edinburgh  It is home to the National Covenant, one of the most important documents in the history of Scotland.   Furthermore, you will find many historic artifacts related to the city in the museum.   Writers’ Museum  This is again a dream spot for dark academia fans. The unique setup and museum celebrate the likes of Robert Louis Stevenson, Sir Walter Scott, and Robert Burns.   Along with rare books, you will also find personal objects used by the prominent literary figures and paintings.   Moreover, the museum offers free entry.   Scottish National Portrait Gallery  Visiting the iconic Scottish National Portrait Gallery is one of the best free things to do in Edinburgh.   Here, you will enjoy a journey through the history of Edinburgh with the photographs, sculptures, paintings, and movies.  Surgeons’ Hall Museums  It is one of the most prominent and fast surgical museums in the world. Here, you will get to know about the evolution of surgery and medicine.   You will also come across the surgical instruments from the 19th century and many preserved specimens. 14. Buying Secondhand Books At Armchair Books  It is a paradise for book lovers. You will get books from the 1800s and different centuries at this shop.   So, you don’t just buy books from here; you carry a little moment of history home.   15. Despite being a celebrated place, the food here is quite reasonable. It’s around £30 for two people.   We chose The Pantry as your brunch stop. It is close to the Circus Lane and Dean Village. I loved the coffee there.   Moreover, at the end of Princes Street, Taco Libre is a casual place to appease your sudden hunger pangs. The tacos are great, but try the Margaritas once!   Where To Stay In Edinburgh?   The House of Gods and the Royal Mile at The Witchery are some of the most interesting places to stay in Edinburgh.   The House of Gods offers a wild experience. On the other hand, the Royal Mile at The Witchery has the quintessential Gothic romance vibe. In the heart of the historic town of Edinburgh, the experience here feels out of this world.   What Is The Best Time To Visit Edinburgh?   Autumn is the best time to visit Edinburgh. Istanbul is massive, and for a first-timer, overwhelming. Also, it’s a city that spans across Europe and Asia.  The European areas have their own vibe. and the Asian counterparts nurture distinct cultures.  Also, there is a more subtle divide between the historical landmarks and a more local experience. Each side has its pros and cons.  So, a struggle to find the perfect accommodation can be a challenge.  Hi, in today’s blog, I will talk about where to stay in Istanbul. I have enlisted the budget-friendly, mid-range, and luxury hotel options in this largest city in Turkey. Also, if you want to explore nature-based tourism in Turkey, you can read my guide on Pamukkale, a place rich in historical heritage and natural beauty. Map Of Istanbul As a first-timer, the Sultanahmet Area will be the best place to stay in Istanbul for you. However,  I want you to be familiar with the map of Istanbul so that you can explore more localities.  In other words, if you are visiting Istanbul for the first time, you must explore the following localities.  1. Sultanahmet Sultanahmet is on the European side of Istanbul. As the heart of the Old City, it offers access to all the important historical landmarks.  However, Sultanahmet is touristy and expensive. So, as a first-timer, it may be difficult for you to connect to the city’s true vibe.  Still, it is at a walkable distance of major attractions such as the Süleymaniye Mosque, Blue Mosque, Hagia Sophia, Grand Bazaar, Basilica Cistern, and Spice Bazaar.  2. Galata Galata is close to the Galata Bridge and the Golden Horn. It is a trendy neighborhood. So, you will find many cozy cafes here.  However, the hotel options here are a little less because it is a hilly region.  The places to stay in Galata are Karaköy, Istiklal Avenue, and Galata Tower. Also, don’t miss a stroll across the Galata Bridge.  3. Taksim On the European side of the city, Taksim is located on Galata’s north. Here, hotel options are diverse, and it has a vibrant nightlife.  Furthermore, it is a shopper’s delight!  However, with so many shops, hotels, and restaurants around and a vibrant nightlife, this locality can get crowded and noisy.  Nevertheless, from Taksim, you can enjoy a stroll on Istiklal Avenue, visit the Republic Monument, and the Taksim Mosque.  In addition, it is the best place in Istanbul to try local street food and enjoy a ride in vintage red trams.  4. Kadıköy and Üsküdar Across the Bosphorus, Kadıköy and Üsküdar have the soul of Istanbul. Also, food and accommodation in this Asian part of the city are much cheaper than in other regions.  However, it is quite far away from the city center, and the hotel options here are limited.  Nevertheless, the places to see near Kadıköy and Üsküdar are Kadıköy Market, the promenade’s waterfront, and Çamlıca Mosque.  From here, you can also take a ferry to explore the European parts of the city.  Where To Stay In Istanbul?
